The Eden Sessions

Thus do the radicals reveal their orthodoxy.
–Orson Scott Card

I. A Beginning, maybe not The

It all burns, at least in the beginning of everything.
Holy air in my chest from the Divine One.
The first awakening. Ever.
The stretch of infinity coming alive in bloodflow.
Dawnlight in the heart of my eye
I get up from the sky and fall to my purpose

Naming Dominion and myself in a style all my own
Explosions of creative ingenuity flow from my fingertips,
As I place my handprint upon creation.
But in so doing, I find my lack.
The Maker reveals His splendor in She.

II. Somewhere on one side of the middle or the other

Lightning and fire echo against the sky
The turn of the tide controlling eternity
A battle for the Enthroned Heights
A battle won
Revenge in the wings

The ending came in the middle. A rift between He and I.
As I tore the fruit’s flesh with my teeth,
The cosmos seeped out of my chest,
The gaping wound oozing the remnants of perfect existence

III. Death, or a reasonable facsimile thereof

I dash wildly around the Garden for an hour,
Attempting to retrieve or recover my lost ignorance.
Knowledge of all that is evil in flux.
Harvesting confusion in the midst of bounty.
A sacrificed lamb hiding my previous comfort
The loss of Paradise echoing in the toil of my hands.

Is Orson Scott Card a fantasy novelist? I love the genre but I recently got saved and been wondering if God approves. I'd love to hear any thoughts on that.
Orson Scott Card is a fantasy novelist. I've read a lot of his works.. As with anything, you have to be careful with what you read. I find Card to be utterly fascinating, often with a complex moral structure that is biblically based. He is Mormon, so his fantasy is not going to be any of the anti-religion or new age that you see a lot of times. I'm a Creative Writing major at Arizona State and I have studied his work intensely, just because he is such a phenomenal writer. Did that answer your question? PS - He just supplied the quote, I wrote the poem.
The poem was deep. Had to read it through twice to begin to understand it. How come the little headings are quirky and the rest of the poem so intense?

I'll go look for one of Mr. Cards books. Any you'd recommend? Have you read any Brandon Sanderson novels? He's Mormon too and is heavy on themes like religion and God.

I'm Kenyan. Studying film and advertising and really wish I'd gone to a university that offered creative writing as a major.
