What Fades

I've seen riches vanish

I've seen the wealthy panic

and struggle to manage

and fall on their face

and die of disgrace,

But now I know what fades.

I've seen time thrown away.

Days wasted in slumber,

too many to number,

and it rips at the heart

of a life trying to start,

But now I know what fades.

I've seen futures crushed.

A bright light was abused,

and it tried to refuse.

It fought to keep hope,

but its brilliance was choked.

And now I know what fades.

I've seen kingdoms fall.

The sharp arrow was pride

with arrogance at His side,

and they slayed all the lords.

Haughtiness was their sword.

And now I know what fades.

I've seen my own life in pain.

I tried taking the reins

with all efforts in vain.

Tried calling His name,

but my voice came out strained

cause my words were all stained

with the sin I've retained

and I'm filled with disdain

for my life that remains.

I feel nothing has changed.

Wickedness fills my veins.

But despite all my shame,

I still call on His name!

And now I know what never fades.

My sins are wholy washed away.

My debt to death and hell is paid.

A new creation is quickly made.

For His mercy never fades.

Yes, His love will never fade.
