My Testimony (about me)
Hi. My name is Alex. I was born and raised in Bronx, NY to a single parent in a low income household with my younger brother, James. Growing up in the "hood" next to the projects was tough. For one I was a light skinned Puerto Rican/African American kid in a heavy black and Latino community who was picked on and bullied from time to time because of my skin color and lack of social influence.

My mom worked VERY hard and did the best she could to provide. She was both mom and dad to us. There were definitely hard times though, from the time I was molested at 3 years old, to my dad being in and out of our lives, to being made fun of at school because I was different, to not having enough food and resources at home, and everything else in between I guess.

Even though my dad was in and out of my life, he did try to instill certain family/cultural values that he himself could not hold up but drilled them into me growing up. Things like asking your family for the blessing when you greet them, respecting your elders, your family is the most important, and keeping your word. I laugh because I have made better sense and application of his values/principals after filtering them through the Bible as an adult Christian than he applied them in his own life.

My immediate family were not Christians growing up, but cultural Catholics...meaning we went to mass every so often as many Latino families did in my community. But like any kid, I cared more about fun than a distant God whom I did not understand. It wasn't until 1996 as an 18 year old angry, moral stricken, fatherless young man with worlds of potential and lack of character that I met Jesus.

I thought all my problems would go away. They didn't. I realized many years later that God uses my circumstances to mold and shape me so I can reach others who went through similar hurts.

I was very talented in school. I finished high school and college with an design degree. As a new convert, I felt sort of uncovered along with a lack of purpose and proper biblical training because I did not have mentors, coaches or spiritual fathering until I came to Spirit Life Church.

It was at Spirit Life that I was fully covered, fully realized, and accepted as who I was as a person and Christian. Now, I have many pastors, many mothers, many brothers and a host of support that has been invaluable to me as a maturing Christian, businessman, husband, and minister.

Since becoming a Christian, I have made it a point to reconcile the hurt, pain, scars, and offenses in my heart and mind towards my parents. I have forgiven and released my parents for their foolish choices and repercussions of the past. My parents have now been married for several years and I speak to both of them frequently.

With much prayer, bible study, worship, and pastoral impartation, I am now married, have a full time job in internet marketing and am an active member of my local church.

I know my continued success and maturation is because I am connected to the body of Christ and to the obedience of Scripture. I thank Jesus and my leaders.

This is my year!

Alex, I ask for your personal forgiveness in not attending class faithfully... I fell, and almost stayed down... But by the grace of God I am back on my feet and ready to take down some demons... The devil is trying to weaken my spirit by taking down my family one by one... and he found the heart... So again I ask for you to forgive my absents and I am going to be jumping back on track... I also lost my phone so that is another reason "excuse" why I haven't called you...

See you tonight brother...

Godbless...
