My Testimony (about me)
So...me. Well I've had quite the life. Hmmm... When I was born my lung collapsed. I went home from the hospital to a house full of severe domestic abuse. My dad was an extreme alcoholic and druggie. My mom worked long hours and I, as a toddler, raised my younger sister. My parents eventually dicorced after years of abuse, which I witnessed. My mom, sister, and I moved into my grandma's house. (My grandparents sold their Kentucky farm and moved to Ohio to help us.) My mom decided drugs, drinking, and partying was more her thing and abandoned us with our grandparents. They raised us, with Christian values and warm hearts. At age seven, my mother decided she wanted to have more to do with us, but she was exiled from the family circle and wasn't allowed in our home. Only now do I know why. She was/is a lesbian. My family is Southern Baptist. My mother sang in the choir and was supposedly a perfect, Christian girl. Haha, not. Now she was shunned. We saw her each Sunday. My younger sister and I would walk from one end of the church parking lot to the other, getting into my mom's car. This went on until I was eleven. April 2005, my beloved Grandfather, the man I considered my father, was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma. We moved from the only home I knew, to a not so nice city to save money for my grandpa's battle. My grandparents adopted us that summer. I didn't want to admit it, but my grandfather was dying before my eyes. He isolated himself and gave in without putting up a fight. He withered away. When I was thirteen, my aunt, my grandparent's only other child, also came out of the closet. It was a heavy blow. After all this, my grandmother,a spring chicken still at only 53, couldn't take it anymore. We had never really gotten along. We argued constantly. She was stuck in her narrow-minded ways and I was open and thought differently. I loved my mother unconditionally. She loved who my mother used to be. My grandma became controlling, cruel, and, finally, physically abusive. This left my dying grandfather broken hearted. He would listen lying in his bed as I bawled my eyes out and called her crazy. My younger sister was placed in the same position I had been in, a witness to abuse. My grandfather died May 12th, 2007. My mom became depressed, gained weight, did more drugs. My grandma became bipolar. My aunt was the rock. All the time I taught a Sunday School class at a church full of elderly people. The younger generation dying out, left me the only candidate for the position and years of hardship had brought a strong maturity. My faith was that of a fresh teen, and I was NOT spiritually ready to teach, but I did and I loved it. My faith grew and then disappeared. My grades had always been honor-level. I had dated many, MANY guys and had been in quite a few violent relationships. (I was only FOURTEEN.) I got tired of trying so hard. Tired of abuse. Tired of pretending. Tired of screwing up. I moved in with my mother, who by that time was straightening out her life. I was fourteen. I thought running away would solve the problem. It didn't. I made more stupid decisions and nearly lost my home. Now I sit here, a changed person. A girl, age fifteen, who wants more than anything to be the best she can be. I live with my mom and her fiance (a wonderful woman, mind you,) and her daughter who I consider my sister. My younger sister still lives with my grandma and helps her get by. They're best friends. I love HIM. And I want to do all I can to worship HIM, because, even though I have faced many trials, I am sooo blessed.
