Today’s a good day to blog. Some time ago I decided to write a book "Trying to Survive in a World Called Normal". It has become more apparent to me everyday just how real this title is. I passed someone on the street that had on a t-shirt that said "What is Normal”? I was instantly tickled. Realizing it’s not a question that only I have asked over and over.
Actually, reality has impressed upon me that with every challenge, turn and fight I couldn’t be more normal. The recent economy has caused me to search within myself to find things I enjoy about myself. To spend more time with me, and less time spending money on things I really can't afford. In this discovery I've come to realize it's an individual’s responsibility to promote his or her purpose. Like everyone else, I like to do some introspection and self evaluation. Some will do it by plan, and others will do it by accident. Either way, inevitably, we all do it. What I have ultimately come to terms with is that people will take you as serious as you take yourself. In other words, your purpose begins to take on power if you give it power. It's not enough to say you are here for this purpose or that, but you have to be so driven by your purpose that others will begin to affirm your purpose.
Each individual’s normalcy (if that is a word) is centered on his or her purpose. The struggle to feel normal, to be (what we think is) normal is not without merit. Therefore, purpose is not self-fulfilling but rather a commitment to service. Service is the foundation for survival. We have heard so often that only the strong survive. Experience has taught me that my strength comes from empowering others.
I realize that normal is affirmed by purpose. Purpose is affirmed by service. Service is affirmed by empowerment. And lastly, empowerment is affirmed by promotion. We should have a clear purpose about what we are doing or the service we are providing, to the point of empowering and impacting others.
