We can evangelize or socialize. It all depends on whether you are saved or not.

Wow! The first nine chapters of first Chronicles are tough to get through. What can possibly be gained by reading it? ( Son of so and so, son of you know who, son of a gun, and on and on and on. ) Well, that is what I USED to think.

I have learned that much can be gained from it. In fact, I discovered in watching a Christian documentary something that rocked me to the core and bolstered my faith beyond words. If you research the meanings of the names of some of the men in the book of first Chronicles , you may come across some interesting things.

I am going to list the first eleven men mentioned in the book of 1 Chronicles. Behind each I am going to put the meanings of those names.

Adam - Man

Seth - Appointed

Enosh - Mortal

Kenan - Sorrow

Mahalalel- The Blessed God

Jared - Shall come down

Enoch - Teaching

Methuselah- His death shall bring

Lamech - Despairing

Noah - Comfort, or rest

Put all of these together and Gods Glory and Sovereignty are seen in full :

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow ; (but) the blessed God shall come down teaching (that) his death
shall bring the despairing comfort , or rest.

Wow! The revealing of Gods plan for our redemption! How Great is our God! Praise be to our Lord and our King!

Ha! I thought the same thing when I read I Cronicles :)...but you are so right by 'the meaning of a name' -so important-I love what you did by giving some meanings to these names-when you read them together...so powerful!
Except...there's nothing like the name of my Jesus! ;0)
